Following the Government’s commitment to provide access to a minimum of 2 megabits per second (Mbps) download speeds, a broadband subsidy scheme has been launched to help eligible residents.
The scheme allows residents to apply for up to £350 towards the hardware and installation costs to get connected to broadband. Eligible residents will still be required to pay any additional costs such as the monthly service charge.
A selection of broadband Retail Service Providers (RSPs) support the scheme offering wireless technologies such as satellite, 4G and wireless. Each offer a variety of packages based on the amount of data and speed you want. More information on the deals that they offer is available on each of their websites.
Digital Durham are facilitating the scheme on behalf of Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) for properties located in the following council areas: Darlington Borough Council; Durham County Council; Gateshead Council; Hartlepool Borough Council; Middlesbrough Council; North Tyneside Council; Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council; South Tyneside Council; Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council; Sunderland City Council.
Residents with broadband (ADSL) speeds of 2 megabits per second (Mbps) download speeds or less, who are not included in any current fibre broadband plans may be eligible for the scheme. You can check if your current basic broadband (ADSL) download speed is 2Mbps or less here.
